Statute of CICLU (Centro de Iluminação Cristã Luz Universal)

Introduction

Our translation is in progress and will be revised. please refer only to the original copy in Portuguese for clarification:

There are some written accounts that indicate that Mestre supported the statute, while others give the impression that he had a negative impression and did not like it, though he approved. We look forward to uncover more information about the topic, and direct all readers to source the original texts and accounts.

Accounts of the CICLU Statute

From “Eu Venho de Longe”

In this process of spreading extensions, Mestre Irineu also granted, in the mid-1960s, authorization to Regino Silva (a political leftist) and Antônio “Sapateiro” to start an extension of Daime in Porto Velho. It was after the creation of this group that Mestre Irineu came into contact with José Vieira, a former police clerk who would become the mentor and drafter of the statute of the Mestre Irineu center (CICLU), made official on the eve of his death, in 1971. (CEMIN, 1998, p. 40) In October 1967, the couple Francisca Nogueira and Virgílio Nogueira do Amaral also joined the group of Regino and Antonio “Sapateiro” in Porto Velho. Unlike the Acreian extensions, this group did not produce its own daime, regularly receiving shipments sent by Mestre Irineu through a carrier, usually Virgílio Nogueira. On July 15, 1968 (CEMIN, 1998, p. 36), Regino died of tuberculosis (it is said that he contracted the disease during his imprisonment under the military regime) in Rio Branco, at Mestre Irineu’s residence. (CARIOCA, 1998, p. 35) It was up to Virgílio Nogueira to assume the presidency of the Porto Velho group, following the withdrawal of Waldemar, whom Mestre Irineu had originally appointed.

Therefore, he asked José Vieira, a member of the Daime extension in Porto Velho, to help him create a statute for the institutionalization of Daime. He was a civil police clerk and wrote a lot, methodically, although his style still seems to us today to be excessively elaborate and pedantic. Responding to his request promptly, Vieira began working on writing the document. Drafting a statute that would help make the cult acceptable to civil, Catholic and evangelical authorities required a lot of effort, both intellectual and political, and it is said that he even took five liters of daime to compose the document, always seeking supported by the “Sacred Scriptures”. On November 26, 1970, eight months before Mestre Irineu’s death, he wrote a letter to “Dear brother and Master Emperor Raimundo Irineu Serra”, thanking him for the task. In this letter, whose rhetoric clearly differs from the simpler style commonly used by Mestre Irineu’s followers, he says that he is working diplomatically with the Catholic and Protestant Churches of Porto Velho to undo the negative image they had of Daime. Let’s see the content of the letter below (CARIOCA, 1998, p. 39):

I thank you for your kind memory for the letter of the 19th, referring to the program already outlined, I affirm that I am firm together with our brother in Christ, in consolidating the reform that he undertakes in our ritualism. Therefore, disregarding the awareness of visions, he used me as an instrument in the elaboration of our statutes and other 369 means that were probably based on the global objectives of his platform, in addition to the rumors that made about our vehicle in the religious environment, I put myself into the field , starting from an interview with the reverend Father Mário, according to a copy of the request I made to him and which I sent to him, then the presence of his Rev. Dom João Batista Costa, Bishop prelate of the Territory [of Rondônia] who is eager to know our statute through the outline that I presented to him. Afterwards, I conferred with some evangelical pastors given that some believers seek to know our mystery and one of them is already part of our other works, almost already converted to the veneration of the Virgin and her merits, paving our conceptions and principles for the security of our worship and registration in view of the need for coordination in the face of divergences from our foundations, always warning against false Christs, that is, false doctrines with the appearance of being true, these and other points were the main topic that I presented in writing to our Bishop prelate, which appears to support us together with the Catholic Church.

As we have seen, Vieira sought to highlight the similarities between the Daimist doctrine and that of the Catholic and Evangelical Churches, without raising further questions about the premises of the latter. His excessively elaborate style and his way of conceiving the doctrine, as reflected in the final form he gave to the statute, convey the image of a very conservative man, little inclined to further questioning the current sociocultural order. Everything suggests that, in his rhetorical arrangements, he sought to give the daimistas a more respectable and acceptable appearance to the constituted authorities and other holders of power in Acre and Rondon society at the time. Thus, in addition to including copious biblical quotations, its statute would dedicate three chapters to civic issues, chapter VIII dealing with “Christian and Civic Norms”, chapter IX on “Morals and Prophylaxis” and chapter X on “Patriotic and Altruistic Character”. . (CEMIN, 1998, p. 38) Indirectly, it even seems to endorse a derogatory stance towards blackness since, in a letter to Mestre Irineu, he would have sought to offer a justification for black skin as being “ mourning the death of Christ.” (CEMIN, 1998, p. 39)

But this concern with respectability and the pursuit of any cost of acceptance by society at the time was not restricted to José Vieira, being shared by several other daimistas. After all, at a time when traditions of Afro-indigenous origins were still subject to much discrimination and even persecution, the black color, both of Mestre Irineu and the majority of his former followers, was a reason for continued stigmatization and disqualification. His community, for example, was sometimes accused of carrying out a “burnt chestnut tree worship service”, in allusion to Mestre Irineu’s color and height. (CEMIN, 1998, p. 39) Therefore, it is not surprising that certain Daime participants sought to whiten the image of Mestre Irineu, to better project him within Acre society. To this end, they tried to project an image of their leader as someone who, despite being black, would be identified with the then hegemonic values, that is, he would have a “white soul”. This attempt at whitening appears explicitly in certain illustrations produced within the community, which portray Mestre Irineu in a way that minimizes his black phenotypes, such as his color and hair.

On January 7, 1971, after Mestre Irineu received a draft of the statute written by José Viera, the minutes of incorporation were registered from the center. It is said that these minutes were drawn up by João Rodrigues, in formal and legal terms, with relatively little participation from the leader.

From the Account of João Rodrigues Facundes:

The Statute was created by brother José Vieira, in the years 1960 to 1969, when it was officially presented to the Master and registered on 01/22/1971. I arrived at his residence with everything ready, registered at the Notary’s Office. That’s when he said to me: “Compadre, I’m satisfied, I gave a name to someone who didn’t have one. Keep this documentation with you until one day.”

[…]

We arrived there around ten o’clock at night, after a daime feitio, and he had the draft. He asked Luiz Mendes to read it. Luiz Mendes spent two hours reading this Statute. Sometimes we slept, sometimes we woke up, slept, woke up and when we finished he asked us what we thought, if it was good. Our response was: “Who were we to find, to judge?” He said, “Isn’t it good?” We replied: “It’s also good for everyone.” That’s when he came by and handed it to me, and asked me to take the steps and register it at the Official Notary’s Office. So it was done.

[…]

I had a chat with [Mestre Irineu] at the birthday party. He passed away in 1971. On the 5th I arrived with the center’s documentation, all registered with a notary, ready. First I arrived, asked him for a blessing, and around seven o’clock at night he blessed me. He received a copy of the draft statute from José Vieira. Afterwards, he sent the copy to Luiz Mendes do Nascimento to read. There, Luiz Mendes read the copy to all the components who worked on the Daime project. Then he asked one thing: “Is it ok?” I already had the answer: “You’re the one who knows, it’s fine with me.” He passed it on to me and I took care of registering it at the registry office and in the official journal. All of this then, on July 5, 1971, everything was ready. So, at seven o’clock at night I asked him for his blessing, I asked about his health and he replied: “It’s just this cold that’s haunting me.” Comadre Peregrina was like that on the side and everything. She was watching when I finished reading, he said: “Compadre, I’m satisfied, I gave a name to someone who didn’t have one.” People really tarnished the image of daime. The way he expressed himself was very visible. Now certainly registered, legalized, there was no longer any reason for so much blemish. He said, “Keep it with you until one day.”

      but while avoiding arguments and threats, which the
      Functions or the personal and doctrinal character of those of different faiths
      Insulting strangers and at the same time preserving:

      • a) hyperbolic commandment to love those who oppose Christ, like it
        taught in Luke 6:27-35; Matthew 5:47 and Romans 12:14-21, and
      • b) personal freedom of religion, as set out in Article 147 of the Criminal Code and

        the membership rights set out in the statutes

CHAPTER IV

Eclectic property

  • Art. 6. Even if the institution does not adopt a doctrine with its own color, nor of
    Formalism is limited, it is determined by liberal views and
    preserves the essence and nature of sound doctrines, including divine ones
    Magic and scriptures, including:

    • a) teachings and revelation that promote a way of solving problems;

          ascends to heaven for them, or
        • b) in the fraternal form of Galatians 6 and 2;
      • III gradually promote the development and requirements of Christians and
        Citizens;
      • IV Avoid doctrinal elements that do not serve the well-being of the institution.

CHAPTER V

Apology of the Blessed Virgin and the Most Holy Trinity

  • Art. 7. Adapted to the pragmatics of the cult, coordinated with the exegesis of the
    Blessed Virgin and the Exalted and Triune Supreme Being, the none
    should give up because of the impulse of false principles and desire
    frivolous contradictions, as set out in our views
  • Art. 8. Let us remember that she has the primacy that gives her the crowds that she
    adore, award, as well as the worthiness that all previous ones
    Generations demonstrate by their worship (Luke 1:48-49), we commit one
    Mistake if we do not recognize the heavenly mysticism and its inestimable
    Value with a simple, human sense and try to tarnish the shine of the
    “great things” (goodness, merit, etc.), the Savior will save them and
    increase.

    • §. 1. The Bible does not speak about Mary’s children, nor does it say that she had any,
      except the Immaculate, Jesus’ brothers are in the sense of mysticism and faith
      understand, i.e. without blood relationship through the male line, just like him
      Apostle Paul fathered his son Onésimo (Epistle to Philemon, 1:10) and
      just as Jesus Christ applies it in Mark 10:29-30 and those who follow him
      as brothers and children, just as Jesus did in his divine nature
      (superficially), has never admitted that she is only his physical mother, but
      the mother of humanity in the mystical sense, he calls her the mother of the apostle
      Johannes and this himself as your son in the sense of the human species
      (John 19:26-27), he reinforced this symbolism, right up to his
      Return as part of the Great Judgment (John 21:21-23) – i.e. as a mediator
      between Christ and humanity and the latter as the only mediator between them
      Humanity and God the Father.
  • Art. 9. The assertion that when Jesus speaks of brothers, biological brothers
    are meant is simply a mistake, because the two brothers Jakobus and
    John are sons of Zebedee, and James the younger is the son of
    Alphaeus (Matthew 10:2-4; Luke 6:14-16 and Mark 3:16-19) and Judas Thaddeus
    in Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3, is brother of Jesus in the mystical sense, and
    on the other hand, in the blood relationship sense, brother of James, cousin of Jesus
    in Luke 6:16, Acts 1:13 and Jude 1:1, and regarding the virgin’s husband,
    who did not degrade them (Matthew 1:19) out of brotherly love, he first has them
    later recognized, as evidenced by evidence to the contrary (purity, holiness,
    majesty and others) when she was already determined to be God’s chosen one, so that
    Bible text does not say that the patriarch recognized her as a husband, therefore
    Jesus, in the human sense, the first and last son of the Virgin.
  • Art. 10. The truth is, it is inconceivable that the soul of the Most High
    Being should be limited to that earthly body, clothed only with that
    human nature (second level), below that of the angels “due to death,
    to which the human shell is subject” (Hebrews 2:7-9) just as it is unthinkable
    that the Virgin would deprive herself of the “great things” and the privileges of
    Elect could convert into carnal instincts, what those in heaven
    created purity of her soul would have overridden the purity that
    was essential for that great event; this understanding of things only remains
    hidden from those whose mercenary, vulgar minds mechanized ideas
    about an illegitimate conception, but not those who are in favor of a rational one
    and logical reading of the visions and the Holy Scriptures with a sense of reality and
    are open to insight.
  • Art. 11. If one transfers the apology to the theological principle, the criterion is
    valid that the Virgin, on a second level (human Christian nature), the
    Mother of the Word became, corresponding to the Mother of God, as it is the things that are not
    exist, named as if they were to exist (Romans 4:7) and because for him nothing
    is impossible (Luke 1:37 and Mark 10:27), glorified by the Son and this by
    him, even before the world was created (John 1:1-4 and Hebrews 1:2 before
    called) who regained the glory, even more perfect than the angels (Hebrews 1,4),
    so: the father and the son stand above them and, there father and son one
    only Higher Being (John 10:30), and for this reason Jesus is the
    The way, the truth and the life and whoever comes to Jesus can already see him
    Father and can see him, because whoever sees Jesus sees the Father, because he is in him
    Father and this is in Him (John 12:44-45 and 14:6-11), and this in double
    Nature, divine and human, and with human nature He experienced
    Martyrdom and death and with the divine He received his divinity and therefore lives
    from himself, according to the principle that he who accepts the Son,
    actually accepts the father and whoever accepts him accepts the son
    (Matthew 10:40), as well as all who honor Christ, honor the Father, and all
    Those who do not honor the Son do not honor the Father, who honors the Son
    has handed over all discretion (John 5:22-23), so the Father has given everything to him
    Son, who is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15) and
    no one knows Him but the Father, and no one knows the Father except the
    Son and the one to whom he wants to communicate (Luke 11:27), whereby this
    Criterion includes the indivisible duality, from which principle the Holy Spirit
    comes from who, with the Father and the Son, forms the Holy Trinity, which is the
    Holy Spirit, water and blood testify in heaven and on earth
    are a single Higher Being (1 John 5:7-8 and 20).
  • Art. 12 It follows that whoever denies the Son also denies the Father and belongs
    therefore to the Antichrist and all who proclaim Jesus Christ belong to him
    the Father and has eternal life (1 John 22-25), and it must be recognized
    be that the Father is in the Word and the Word in Him, not as with the
    authorities and spirits who live in heaven, nor those who return
    but because in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and that
    Word was God and all things were created by Him and without Him there would be nothing
    arose (John 1:1-4 and Hebrews 1:2 as previously mentioned), which is why it still exists
    There never were and never will be other gods, nor will there be another Savior
    give apart from Him (Isaiah 43:10).
  • Art. 13 Knowing that everything began in heaven (2 Peter 3:5) and that the Father
    imposed the name Son on all nature and all divinity (Psalms 2:7; Acts 12:33
    and Hebrews 1:5 and 5:5) and “the mystery that is from the ages and from the
    He was hidden from generation to generation, but has now been revealed to his saints.
    God wanted to show them what the riches of this glory are
    mystery among the nations, and that is: Christ in you, the hope of the
    Glory.” (Colossians 1:26 and 2:22), the analogy in Jeremiah 31:31-34 is Jesus
    Christ, the promised alliance in which the Father will show himself to all,
    Therefore the Father is the head of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:3) and that no one
    Father has seen, except God’s Essence, which in other words is the Son
    (John 1:18 and 6:46 and 1 Timothy 6:16).
  • Article 14 In this context, the father is greater than the son in his rights
    to hand over all power over heaven and earth (Matthew 11:27 and Luke 10:22),
    since the Word, the soul and the nature of the Father are not of themselves
    Reputation increases (John 8:54) but conforms to it (John 13:16) and
    because Jesus, by accepting human nature, relates himself to that
    father humiliated.

    • § 1. Nevertheless, he commands the angels to worship Jesus Christ and says to him
      He: “Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever; therefore you, O God, are your God
      anointed” (Hebrews 1:6-9), analogous to the principle in Romans 9:5, in which Christ is God
      Above all things is what creates great power, the impossible in the
      divine mysticism, because without this there would be higher wisdom
      untenable.
  • Art. 15. Knowing that Jesus Christ is before all things and everything in him (Colossians
    1.17). So he went back to heaven with the divine and the human (the
    second) Nature, as proclaimed from the Gospels to the Apocalypse, and
    he is our God and our Father (2 Thessalonians 2:16), our God and ours
    Savior (2 Peter 1:1): true God and eternal life (1 John 5:20); he is
    finally, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Father forever, Prince of Peace
    (Isaiah 9:5); Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all things, the God of all,
    who have conquered and the heavenly temple (Apocalypse 1:8, 21; 6 and 22), on these
    Wisely, He actually justifies the Father and the Holy Spirit in the Trinity
    to be and the unity through the divine and human essence and nature of
    Deity, the human one is emphasized by the Bible to avoid that
    The worship, veneration, honor and glory directed to Him are not divine
    imposed duty, but rather the expression of free human will
    this supreme will, just as the Father intended it for all beings

CHAPTER VI

Theoretical aspect

  • Article 16. Determined by:
    • I Vocation and Practice;
    • II The free expression of reason and freedom, determined by:
      • a) free will alternates with
      • b) Determinism, explored by considering:
        • I Personal behavior and determination of the norms of the system,
          except the cause-and-effect laws and
        • II Ultimately manifesting the mental properties.
          • § 1 Determinism determines the laws that stand for:
            • a) the chords of the connections, in terms of ideas and changes, which
              regulate the mindset of the community;
            • b) the actions and the reasons that depend on the functions and the sequence of the
              Facts are determined that come from omnipotence.
          • § Unique: The other factor is divine intervention, which makes His will clear
            and that goes beyond human limitations, that is, so to speak
            God’s boundaries are not attackable and irrevocable.

CHAPTER VII

‘Polideliça’ and its qualities

  • Art. 17. Let us move on to the primacy of the mysteries, in this chapter the effect stands out
    of the sacred plants jagube and chacrona, from the juice of these plants
    arises the polideliça, a general term composed of the
    Greek prefix “poly” = excellent and the Latin noun “delícia”
    /Enjoyment/, the neologism comes from Ayahuasca and is usually called
    “Santo Daime” is known because of the light of the mysteries it contains and the way
    as it is requested by the abstraction of the mind simultaneously with privation
    and deliciousness, the odyssey of the invisible world in the past, present and
    future reality:

    • I The symbolism of visions and their relativity:
    • II the exaltation of the spirit;
    • III the inspiration of the soul;
    • IV the divine light;
    • V the vibrations;
    • VI the Communications and Revelations;
